New
sculpture by Nancy Steinson at the Anita Shapolsky
Art Foundation
Born
in Louisville, Kentucky, Steinson has exhibited in both Europe
and the United States. Her major outdoor installations include
Sculpturgarten Kapelle in Benken, Switzerland and Begagnig Am
See, Lachen, Switzerland; and two in the New York area, Kingsborough
Community College, CUNY, and Long Island University's Outdoor
Sculpture Exhibition. She has accomplished several public art
projects, such as the Ackerly Memorial Garden, Norton Hospital,
Louisville, and a project for Louisville's Bingham Child Guidance
Clinic.
With
an interplay of rectilinear and curvilinear planes and precise
lines and smooth surfaces, Steinson's sculptures evoke a movement,
producing an experience of fluidity and wave-like space. Arranged
in spatial intervals to create a coherent look and an orderly
whole, her work embodies both stasis and motion, tranquillity
and tension, silence and vibration.
